It has to be Knight Rider. I loved the Jeffersons too, but the KR theme is like nothing else, and it really puts into perspective how fantastic a song it is when you hear that Panjabi MC song 'Mundian To Bach Ke' where the backing track is the Knight Rider theme played on traditional instruments.
Love the Panjabi MC song! Though I think I love the mashup with Metallica even more. Here’s the link in case you’re unfamiliar with it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvL9rqMEKYM
🤣 Usually when somebody calls something ‘interesting’ it’s because they’re bored or they hate it but are too polite to say so. I don’t know if that’s how you meant it. but I just love the blending of genres. It gets my blood pumping every time and is pretty much on every treadmill mix I’ve ever made.
You should do a whole episode on Simon & Simon tv series. The guys are still around. Jameson Parker wrote some books a while back. He live in Northern California on a ranch he owns.
I bet if you could find a email for him you might could interview him on substack about his books or writing. He use to have a blog. He is a great writer too.
Well, we are moving on up! When we moved into a high rise condo, we put the theme song to the Jeffersons on our housewarming party invitations. Incredibly catchy and I dig the gospel, sing-a-long, clap-a-long vibe. And the theme epitomized the happy momentum of the seventies, when, post civil rights movement, people were feeling optimistic and proud of what they had achieved surmounting obstacles, racism, and systemic inequality. Sad it is going the other way now, but, back then, it felt there might be light at the end of the tunnel for women, minorities, and gay people. Fun post Sonny. Thanks! I admit though, only passing familiarity with the other shows. Growing up, we had only one TV channel in our household. I do have some memory of Knight Rider though. I am going to check out the theme song now.
I agree with everything you said about The Jeffersons! Uplifting song and groundbreaking show. I watched a few episodes recently, as well as some from All in the Family (the show, as you know, The Jeffersons spun off from) and was amazed by how funny both shows still are. Sure, some of the material is dated, but there’s an energy there that continues to crackle. Also amazing is how far we’ve moved backwards. No way would shows today get away with many of the jokes from that period.
You really are a kindred spirit Sonny! We watched some All in the Family recently too. What a coincidence. And the show remains, in my estimation, outstanding in many ways. The writing is extremely good (I particularly love the episode that highlights how Michael and Gloria met). On a side note, we are also watching Columbo, which also holds up great - so droll and Peter Falk was delightful as the shambling, yet super smart, sleepy eyed sleuth.
I had the action toy figured and that souped up Van.
I wanted that van so bad when I was a kid lol.

Actually neither in this case. I wasn’t sure what to make of it.
mind = blown
Now that's something I didn't know existed!
I went with The Jefferson’s, mostly because it was the only one I knew off hand. I had to look up the others. I’ve never been much of a tv guy.
Fair enough. Can't go wrong with The Jeffersons, though. I still remember the words after all these years.
Simon & Simon had a great theme song too. I still watch The A Team too. One of my all time favorites.
I actually considered including it at one point, along with the theme from The Love Boat. Lots of great choices in 1983!

I tend to write about music related subjects, but I appreciate the thought and will definitely keep it in mind.
I’ll ride with the A Team but will toss in love for the guy on the fly.
I bet you love it when a plan comes together.
Oooh yeaaah …don’t you know that I do. lol

The theme from Greatest American Hero! I love that song so much. I listened for it on the radio and try to write down all of the lyrics.
